Thanks...a good example of what I have already said is easy to find online. A list even of what appears to be a website which should know the difference to be correct (scientifically and historically).
The historic derivations of the terms (as provided above), taxonomic system (as provided above), and derivation of the scientific system (as provided above). Refute the findings on webpages such as these.
If confusion is ensuing, I suggest going back to history component of this issue as posted above. The animal's only name (outside indigenous tribes) for the first 130 years was later translated into the Latin and the word bison was only then associated with the animal, and then, only in the scientific community.
Please understand I have to suspect the facts are not being taken into account anyway if your post was meant to somehow (?) be a legitimate rebuttal point instead of just showing an example of what I mentioned exists.
Misinformation from both a historical and scientific standpoint, that this is ONLY a bison have made it common for people/websites to use this animal's genus/species for its proper name. And while people can call it a frog if they want to, the misinformation is, adamantly by some, being defended despite the verifiable facts.
