I have a feeling there are going to be quite a few 3 pointers. I love Japanese coins, so really looking forward to this round. Since mine is Brilliant Unc (BU) and has an inverted cherry blossom on the left side of the reverse but it isn't a BU coin would it still qualify for the 5 points instead of just 3? I know Finn already won this round...was just kinda curious.

Sorry for not getting back to this thread last night. Most Bu coins have at least one inverted Sakura on one side or the other. Hartill doesn't offer an explanation in his guide on the coins, but I think it may have been something akin to a privy mark of individual Mint officials. The Japanese were avid coin collectors during the Tokugawa era, so there is enough data out there to make your head spin. Mine all have at least one inverted. Using Hartill's system, they are denoted using letters of the alphabet, starting at the top left and zig-zagging down to the inverted cherry blossom. Capital for obverse, lower case for reverse: Left: F/c (Second down on left / top middle) Middle: A/a (Top left both) Roght: Z/q (All normal / bottom, second from left) Top that off with the calligraphy variants (also significant as they can denote the period of rule) and you'll end up with a headache! AGCoinAU's Bu is B/a, so I would say there is still a chance to beat my A/a!

Finn thank you soooo much for all that info... it was awesome... I think I should show you my Shu that I bought along with the Bu... see what more info you can give me on it.
I had asked my local dealer if he had anything interesting and he showed me the Bu and Shu... Knowing nothing about them I thought of them to be quite interesting and happily paid for them. I over paid for them... but I'm very glad I have them.

Since I can't win, I may as well post something different. To my knowledge, this is the only hexagonal silver coin of modern times, intended for circulation. Egypt 2 piastres, dated AD 1944
