Pepa has this, his coin is older and thus wins (Plus I would have to think up another challenge!).
I could enter several coins that would get 4 marks.
A 20 Piastres of Hussain Kamil like arkle's (Mine is 1916) and I have the 10 and 5 that would also qualify over 21mm
Several South African and Boer Halfcrowns going back to the 1890s (Like Spence)
Just a good challenge!

OK, on second look, I misunderstood Princetane's post (basically, I forgot that it was Gincoin's challenge, not Princetane's). This coin wouldn't have won, but it's a neat coin, and maybe the pics could be useful somewhere else on CCF... (I apologize for the tiny pics - the optimizer didn't work properly when I tried to resize cropped pics, so I just cropped from the default 1200-pixel photos.)   Congress Poland (aka "Russian Partition of Poland") 3/4 ruble = 5 zloty Warsaw mint, 1836 1 point for 2 denominations  1 point for silver (any fineness) 1 point for being demonetized 1 point a large mammal (humans do not count)  (eagles, of whatever head count, aren't mammals last time I checked) 1 point for African issues (Poland isn't in Africa) 1 point for a diameter larger than 21mm Total: 4 points |

Yeah my post was just conceding impending defeat. For Arkles and everyone elses benefit   It is just such a beautiful large coin and I recommend you all get one for your collection if you don't have it already. They are not cheap ($50 or so) but totally worth it. |

Yes but freaky 2 headed eagles must be worth something - love your coin anyway J1M and it is the oldest so far.

I think it ultimately comes from Byzantium? I want to get one of those tiny Ivan IV 1/4 kopek coins with the double-headed eagle some day. (It's far from the oldest type with the design, admittedly.) There's technically a horse on this particular coin, though it's not very large (in terms of design space) and hard to see on this example (having been worn off a little). |

Keith: 4 points( that is the second maybe third best looking elephant)

Spence: 4 points I love the simplicity of the obverse
Dorado: with 4 I think ( not actually sure how large that coin is)
J1m: 4 points and a cool coin. I think the two headed eagle goes as far back as Hittite Anatolia and Mycenaean Greece. There is also a less used three headed eagle though I'm not sure if it's on any coins.
And the winner is..... Pep! With the earliest 5 point coin.
