Cafemasterj, that's the coolest counterstamp I've ever seen! Nice one!

Cool. Too bad about the gunk. I imagine acetone would help there.

Hello. Someone in my post found here http://goccf.com/t/327405#2794015 mentioned your name so I I'd a quick search. Can you help identify this coin? Is it worth anything? I haven't seen any images of a coin with this stamp.

to CCF, Pastel_fl! Your coin is a 1974 copper cent from the Philadelphia mint. Regardless of its aesthetic and/or collectible interest, the counterstamp is technically PMD (damange). It is a nice, clean stamp and looks like a shield, perhaps to represent law enforcement. It's worth 1 cent to most people and maybe up to a couple bucks to people who collect counterstamps. I'll let Chafemasterj chime in on value though.

Here's what my counterstamped cent looks like after its 100% Acetone bath. It didn't change much, if at all.

Well, up to you but I'd probably just scrape it off with my thumbnail or toothpick. Could be slightly different color under the gunk (depending on how long it has been there) but I don't think that will matter.

CelticKnot, that's a good suggestion. Maybe I should try scrapping it off with a toothpick.
