It looks like a VAM-33, possibly a 33A.

I'd say not even a close call, definitely weak rather than strong vis-à-vis the 7/8 state.
The obverse hits I see are pretty prominent but in this era of "market" grading I imagine it might still make MS64.

looks ms64 but the luster is not showing on liberty's face which is a little concerning, but may be the lighting. nice fields.

It's the 7/4 "fat legs" 33A, and clashed at the neck/chin junction, the chin, and the mouth; on the reverse, inside the upper left and upper right wreath tips.
The fields are great, but the bust and right wing have marks, nicks, scrapes, and dings. MS-63 would be my grade.
You can see some pitting resembling die rust in places, and similar pitting is evident on the 33A plate coins at VW.
This one looks like a slightly later die state than the plate coins for 33A which look to me like EDS coin struck soon after the dies clashed.

Paralyse - thanks for the education. I went to the VM site to to get a better understanding of the attribution you suggested. obviously, you are correct. and yes the plates there are very similar to this coin. Coinfrog - luster looks good and unbroken. larger ding above the eye appears to a bag mark with indents from the reeding of other coins. another pic attached from dealer that, hopefully, better shows luster on face. thanks all.  |
