On my metal detector it says that it is a precious metal. What should I do with or how can I check what actually is in it. It is cylinder shape half a size of a soda can. Grey white in colour with dark spots

@NF43, first welcome to CCF. Second, any chance on you posting a couple pics? Sounds interesting...

Ok yep that's a rock.

I wonder if it might be concrete, perhaps with a metallic surprise embedded somewhere in the middle. Is there any reason to not just smash it into smaller pieces (perhaps while wearing some eye protection)?

Well it's quite a funny situations cause I thought the same but my grandad the founder of this rock thinks that if we break the rock the metals inside will get damaged and loose value. I am trying to convince him now. Thanks anyway I will update you if something happens.

I'll have to show this to my wife the geologist but it looks man made to me. At least where I live you don't find too many cylindrical rocks in nature.

Hi NewbieFinder43 and welcome to the forum.

Can you give a little more detail as to the circumstances as to where it was discovered e.g. was it in the country side or near the coastline or in a riverbed or on a mountain, etc ... was it found in a remote location or close to civilisation ... and was it found on or close to the earth's surface, or at a reasonable depth?
