@1369, can you please measure and post the weight? These are typically nickel-plated, which makes them mildly attracted to a magnet. The weight will be a good determinant of what you have.

Ok yes so then you have your answer. A copper cent should weight roughly 3.1 g while a steel cent should weigh more like 2.7 g. You have a cent that someone has plated, perhaps as part of a high school science experiment. Kinda neat, but not a mint error.

On the edge look for a weakness on the plating. If there is any disturbance you would see copper showing through. Is this in a bezel? That maybe magnetic?

with Spence. It is most likely nickel-plated.

Looks like it is in a bezel. many of the costume jewelry bezels back then were made of steel as that could also be what is being attracted to the magnet.
