First coin of mine for 1891 is a Half Crown!   This is the first of my Jubilee Heads issued between 1887 and 1892. I don't like the portrait, Victoria looks chicken necked and the crown is too comically small. It is easy to see why it lasted just 6 years before the Old head arrived and it was never used on the Bronze or on any colonial coins either. Like most of my 19th century pieces, the coin is well worn and this one grades around gVG. Edited by Princetane

Again some superlative British coins from you, love the Crowns as always and a nice Penny. Loved that story about May Day too - great to get some context behind things being issued. Before I posted a Turkish coin, which I took off as I realised the date was Year 13 not Year 16 (The Arabic symbols for 2, 3 and 6 are VERY similar to the non Arabic eye). The coin will be coming back when we reach 1888 - so don't worry!  |
