The 1963 coins for me 1. French 50 centimes - this coin was superseded by a smaller ½ Franc coin and used only a few years. Not as common as they look, they kept this design for the 5, 10 and 20 centimes.

My next 1963 coins are a Halfcrown and Shilling. The Halfcrown looks UNC but is AU and has light rubbing on the Queens hair. Disregard the weak shield detail - weak striking is common on later date Cupronickel coins. They only change the date slug each year and most of the detail is from dies engraved in 1933 and 1947. In 1965 set coins had a new sharper die strike. All my kiwi coins now are circulation pieces. There were no Kiwi Halfcrowns in 64, so my 63 is fairly nice too (It's hard to find them below EF). The shilling is also AU and better than average. 63 backwards most of our coins are VF and below.

1963 also gave me a stunning GB Half crown Not as sharp as 1967 - but a good piece nevertheless!

My final 1963 coin Well 2 actually - a Hong Kong 50 cent coin and a 1 cent coin. This was the currency used between 1961 and 1964 in which the silver coins were exactly the same as the old Predecimal ones, except now Jan van Riebeck replaced the Queen and values were in cents rather than pence or shillings. Silver was 50% and the cent was the size of an old penny but brass and with a design showing Trekboer wagons. In 1965 this currency was scrapped for the small and cheap looking nickel and copper one. Only the much reduced rand was silver until 1970.
