Hi, not sure if I'm posting in the correct place but I have been debating on this coin that I have not sure if it's a grease strike or damage after it left the mint or an actually error coin. So, it's a 1998 Lincoln Penny not sure if it has a mint mark cause the date is barely legible but I believe it may be a Close AM but the damage is to the obverse side of the coin, there's only a few letters you can make out such as WE & a few other letters but please any advise or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!! I almost forgot to mention how much shinier this penny is compared to other 1998 pennies I have. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

Hi Heather!

Your coin was Struck Through Grease, covering a good amount of the obverse design. It's a good example, certainly 2x2 worthy. Looks like a 1998 ( no mint mark). It has a Close AM which is normal for the year. The Wide AM is a variety you want to look for on cents from 1998,1999 and 2000. Nice find!

That's a nice error coin. Not worth a big bunch of money, but certainly a keeper.

Thank you so much!! That was my first official error coin I've found! Anything else I've found is usually a after mint damage or something else. So excited now! Thank you so much!!
