mrwiskers Pillar of the Community United States 1780 Posts	Posted 08/02/2025 2:23 pm this coin was originally struck as an 8 maravedis at the Burgos, Spain Royal Mint, in 1619. Around 1628, in an effort to stem Spain's economic upheaval, King Philip IV decreed these coins devalued to 1/2 of their original value (from 8 to 4 maravedis). No mark was applied to reflect this action. ...In 1641, Philip IV decreed these coins to be back to their original value (8 maravedis), & those that possessed them, were required to take them to a Royal Mint, pay a fee, & the mint would apply counterstamps with a date & a re-evaluation mark. ...In this case, the coin originally minted in Burgos was taken to the Madrid Royal Mint & stamped ... ...2 dates...1618 & 1641 ...
