nice to see all these great coins ! my last Monnerons, two examples of the 2 sols 1791 "Liberte Assise"   these were minted during the last weeks of 1791 the obverse is full of symbols of the revolution; the rooster for example, or the tablet on which is reffered to article 5 of the 1789 declaration of human rights (declaration des droits de l'homme et du citoyen de 1789) see details below  finally a portrait of the three Monneron brothers, who embarked in a copper coin advanture of majestic proportions, resulting in pieces of great originality and suppreme quality , but which ended with legal obstruction and a financial disaster for themselves  |

And now back to your regularly-scheduled programming: We can have a French and English war here, apparently, with so many English tokens and French coins! 1791 Halfpenny Token D&H Cheshire 49 / Macclesfield Charles Roe's Copper Works You might recognize one side of this token from the mule I posted for 1796. ex: Robbie Brown  1791 Halfpenny Token D&H Lancashire 140 / Rochdale The Rochdale Lamb   1791 Halfpenny Token D&H Yorkshire 44 / Leeds Richard Paley edge / Bishop Blaze with lamb This is quite a scarce token in any grade.   1791 Halfpenny Token D&H Lanarkshire/Glasgow 3c "ARESTERE" somewhat hastily corrected to "ARESCERE" - (May it) never become dry River god holding an urn representing the River Clyde   Member ANA - EAC - TNA - SSDC - CCT #890 "Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done." -- Louis D. France 1790, ecu, Paris (A). Royal coins of the pre-revolutionary type continued to be minted until 1792. Louis XVI was once a handsome guy, at least around 1774, when this portrait was made.  |
