1787...

United Kingdom sixpence:

United Kingdom shilling:
How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Seventh-Edition!-Ended-At-1380-Waiting-On-1379
These were the first coins of these denominations issued since 1758 (sixpence) and 1763 (shilling) and the next issues would not be until 1816 (apart from the extremely rare 1798 shilling)..

France 1786, double louis d'or, Louis XVI, Paris (A).

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Seventh-Edition!-Ended-At-1380-Waiting-On-1379

The double louis d'or with its 15.3 grams of 0.917 gold was the largest denomination during the ancien regime. It was valued at 48 livres, which was 1-2 ordinary monthly salaries. A coin rarely seen by commoners.

Like for most gold and silver coins before the revolution, the value is not stated on the coin. ½, 1 and 2 louis d'or coins look the same, apart from being of different size and weight (the same applies to the silver ecus).

This is my average one at 52.0g. I believe this is also my only coin with a die clash (above "85" you can see the wing and scepter).

Just 2 for 1786 and then 1785.

1786 - Vermont - VERMONTENSIUM aka "landscape copper"
Not a very good quality planchet, totally typical for these.

1785 MC - Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel
16 Gute Groschen (1/2 Conventionsthaler)
Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand

A decent sized hunk of silver, 32mm and 14g.
The planchet voids and striations are common, even on Uncirculated examples.
