You would think with an official name like - "1925 Stone Mountain Memorial Half Dollar" - a mountain would be an in-your-face obvious design element. It is not, however.
The obverse of the coin features Confederate General Stonewall Jackson (rear) and Confederate General Robert E. Lee (front) on horseback as they were originally to appear as part of the carving on Stone Mountain (outside of Atlanta, Georgia). Funding limitations reduced the full scope and details of the carving, however.
The reverse, however, is where the coin's mountain can be found. The eagle, the primary design element, is perched atop a small mountain ledge.
Note the North Carolina (N. Car) counterstamp on the coin's reverse.
