In the classic-era US Commemorative coin series we have the 1925 Stone Mountain Memorial Half Dollar. In the modern US series we have the 1991 program celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the completion of the Mount Rushmore Memorial in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. The mountain upon which the Memorial is carved is referred to as Mount Rushmore. The figures of US Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln are carved into the mountain. The 1991 commemorative coin program includes three coins: Gold Half Eagle ($5), Silver Dollar and Copper-Nickel (CuNi) Clad Half Dollar. The Memorial and its mountain are depicted on all three coins in one form or another. I purchased my coins from the Mint individually vs. in a three-piece set. (My typical purchase method.) commems CCF Master Historian of USA Commemoratives United States 12330 Posts	Posted 07/30/2024 07:20 am The 2016 commemorative coin program for the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service (NPS) presents a one-step-removed mountain theme. Each of the program's three coins - Gold Half Eagle, Silver Dollar and Copper-Nickel (CuNi) Half Dollar - feature the NPS Arrowhead Emblem. Within the Emblem is seen a snow-capped mountain (in the background). The mountain is meant to represent the geographic features of US National Parks, along with their recreational use. The NPS was created to protect and preserve such natural features The Emblem (and mountain) is most easily seen on the reverse of the Half Eagle and the Half Dollar. As always, I added the Uncirculated versions to my collection vs. the Proof versions. Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. All rights reserved. Report this Post to the Staff
