It's easy to overlook the mountains on the reverse of the 1936 San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Half Dollar as the design is fairly "busy" and has many features that draw the eye. But if you look to the far background (near the coin's top rim), beneath the "CO" in "FRANCISCO" and "OAKLAN" in "OAKLAND", you will see a segment of the Diablo Range of California's Coast Range Mountains. The Diablo Range extends from the eastern San Francisco Bay area south to the Salinas Valley area.

@All: thanks for the continued positive feedback on my previous coins. I'm enjoying seeing the wide variety folks are presenting here. I'm posting this one as an "Honorable Mention" for the theme - the 1995 Civil War Battlefields Silver Dollar. The coin's reverse depicts the 12th and 44th New York Infantry Monument on Little Round Top near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Though some may think differently, Little Round Top is best described as a "rocky hill" rather than a mountein - it does have an elevation of 650 feet, however.

@All: "Thank You!" for the continued support for my contributions. I recently chronicled my collecting pursuit of a four-coin series from Canada that celebrated historic bank note vignettes. One of those selected for depiction on a $5 silver coin was a vignette titled "Lion on the Mountain." The mountain is unnamed, but obviously a part of the design on this 2014 issue. For more on this coin, see: 2014 Northern Crown Bank - Coin 3 Of 4
