Hello all,

I recently acquired an assortment of Japanese and Chinese coins and charms, all in an old cardboard case- they had been brought back in the mid 1920's to the UK by a gentlemen who was working in Japan and China.

A there were a handful of easily identifiable Chinese 10 and 20 cash fuzhou and some Japanese 10 mon, however also around 24 mixed ancient - 19th century coins and Charms I'm not too familiar with. Many appear dug up, if they are copies they are at least early 20th century.

1st couple ive put here - two unface, assumed Japanese, ae pieces approx. 4cm diameter. Ill post a the rest across another few posts so as not to put too many on one post.

I'd appreciate any information on ID for any of these - thanks in advance for any help.

@jeff, since these are square, do you mean that the sides are each about 40 long? If so, I wonder if these aren't personal seals, used for marking a handmade object or artwork with the creator's name:

These are indeed square seals, of the type very commonly used in East Asian culture; as the Wikipedia article notes, they are effectively used in much the same way that we would use a signature. 4 centimetres is quite large for a personal seal, so these might be company seals.

Being seals, all of the script (which is written in the "Seal script" calligraphy style) is mirror-inverted; to see it "right way round" you would need to either get some ink and make a stamp-impression, or photo-edit the picture to mirror-reverse it.
