As I have explained in my intro post at https://goccf.com/t/491692, I'm an accidental gold investor as a result of being power of attorney for my aunt, and I intend to sell her gold and silver coins. The coins include Krugerrands, Canadian $50 gold pieces, Chinese panda coins, silver US dollar coins, and silver US half dollar coins. I'll make sure to research these coins, post photos of them on the appropriate forum here at Coin Community, and figure out how much they should sell for. But once I do that, what is my best option for selling coins? Please keep in mind that I do not want to ship them somewhere, because there are just too many things that can go wrong along the way. Should I go to a coin show so that I can present my coins to multiple gold/silver dealers and see which one offers the best price? Should I go to several local gold/silver dealers and see which one offers me the best price? |

In selling you must first figure out which ones have value above bullion. Without knowing what you have it's a hard question to answer. Those are 2 different kinds of sales. In my opinion

Personally, I would avoid all of the "cash for gold" stores. I generally go to my local, trusted, coin shop as they tend to give me better pricing. Going to a coin show as you suggest would be the best way to get competitive offers quickly.

The majority of gold coins will have little to no premium now due to the high price of gold. The majority of modern silver coins are the same. If you can put together a list (no need for photos at this time) with the following we can probably help with value.
Coin type - Like American Silver Eagle
Date: 2019
Mint: Usually a letter like S or D
Condition: Is it like new, new or has wear.
Gold/Silver.
Any special treatment?
For example a 2019 P (Philadelphia) American Silver Eagle is worth about $60, but a 2019 S American Silver Eagle in Enhanced Reverse Proof is worth ~ $1000.
The vast majority will be bullion, which you can sell to a coin shop, the price are usually spot minus a small premium.

Keep in mind that the precious metals market has seen huge gyrations this year. If you are in no hurry to sell your aunt's coins, you can sit back and wait for some price increases.

It was wildly overheated in 2026. Over the last five years, silver has held around $25/oz for four years straight. Then it went bonkers early this year, up to $120.
There are plenty of investment strategies for how to handle those kinds of gains, but they depend on the owner's goals, risk tolerance, timeframe. Any investment advisor worth their salt can talk someone through the options.
