Should Paper Checks Be Abolished Like The Penny?

My first exposure to computers was the Apple ][ in grade school. My first home computer was the Sinclair ZX-81. My first modem was 300 baud and used pulse dialing. How things have changed.

It is all I have had since I dropped the landline in 2008. I actually quit making landline calls before then. I only had it for the security system and I got a new panel with a cellular modem in 2008.

I have a Polycom phone at home for work. It has a DID, so it might as well be a landline. I use the DID number when sites/companies require a secondary number since the mobile is technically my home phone.

Telecom is the original and once primary business of my employer of 29+ years. We have expanded into many other things, but the Telecom is a huge part of a 46 year history.

My first computer was the TRS-80 that I built from a Radio Shack kit. I haven't had a landline this Century, but we're not going to talk about my the suitcase brick mobile phone from the Jurassic Era that I had back in the day. I've also been completely paperless for my coin dealing and personal collecting since before the turn of the Century. (I do have 45+ TB of digital records and photos, however. Yes. I'm a digital hoarder.) I haven't sent an email this year. And I still have $3 left from the $20 bill I had in my wallet at the start of the pandemic. Like several others here, I have used checks for home remodeling, mainly because my much younger Luddite accountant threatened to remove some of my innards if I didn't. Other than that, I'm still on my last checkbook from the very early 2000s.

Just mailed, a few days ago, two cheques to our snow removal company for winter 2026-2027. Previously, in the spring, two to our grass cutting company. Don't like emailing my credit or debit card info. to anyone. Use between 15-20 cheques a year. .

We're definitely outliers of our millennial generation, but my wife and I write multiple checks per month: church giving, utilities, and contractors. Mostly because it's the only way to avoid credit card fees. Some local contractors don't even accept cards.
