I'm guessing this has been discussed before, but if it has, I missed it.
Why don't the grading services offer "split grading?" A grade for the obverse, and a grade for the reverse?
So many times I've seen coins with a wonderful reverse, but an obverse that was lacking, and dragged the overall grade down.
This would be a bonanza for the grading services as slabbed coins would need to be resubmitted to meet the new standard.
Yes, I can hear the moaning and groaning, as well as the gnashing of teeth at the mere suggestion, but I think it would eventually be embraced.
