To my (untrained) eye, the FHD and Washington quarters appeared tarnished. I laid out the pliofilm packs and snapped these photos: In August, I took one FHD and one quarter & dipped them in e-Z-est coin cleaner: Before & After of the quarter: If the coins were "toned," would the results have been the same ? If there's a tutorial on the CCF or elsewhere re: understanding the differences between toned and tarnished, I would sincerely appreciate a referral. . ."Education is the key to collector success" . . .Thank you. Chemically, I believe all toning is technically tarnish. I've had it in my mind that tarnish with color, other than black, is toning (as it has a "tone"), and black is just tarnish. That's my novice understanding at least! My quarter above sold decently below book, certainly no premium for the toning, but it is slabbed as having come from a named collection known for choice toning, so I think personal preference is key!
