I was surprised to find that there wasn't already a thread for coins/medals that depict a flag. As it seems to be a popular enough design theme for coins from countries around the world, I figured it was time!
Let's have a look at the coins and/or medals in your collection that feature one or more flags. They can be front and center in the design or an identifiable part of the background. As long as the coin/medal presents a flag (vs. a pennant) it's welcome!

To kick things off, here's a 1934 Texas Independence Centennial half dollar from the classic era of US commemorative coins; the Texas half dollars were struck from 1934 through 1938 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Texas' independence from Mexico. The coin's reverse design features no less than six flags, each one representing a different country for which a flag of sovereignty flew over Texas soil. The flags are in the background, directly behind the figure of Nike or Winged Liberty, - between her wings. The flags represent: 1. Spain (1519-1685; 1690-1821) 2. France (1685-1690) 3. Mexico (1821-36) 4. Republic of Texas (1836-45) 5. United States of America (1845-1861; 1865-present), and 6. Confederate States of America (1861-65). Pompeo Coppini was the designer of the coin. 1934 Texas Independence Centennial Half Dollar For more of my posts about the Texas Centennial half dollar, see: Commems Collection.

@triggersmob: My tired ol' eyes can't see the difference between the two 2000 Australia 50 cents coins you've presented. What feature(s) should I key in on to see the incuse vs. non-incuse difference?

I'll add another modern US commemorative coin to the mix... In 2002, the US Military Academy at West Point marked its bicentennial. As part of the 200th anniversary commemorations, a US commemorative silver dollar was struck at the Mint's West Point, NY facility (the reverse features the "W" mint mark). The coin's obverse design presents a cadet color guard on parade at West Point with Washington Hall and the famous Cadet Chapel (on the hill) in the background. The color guard is carrying (left to right) the United States Flag, the flag of the US Corp of Cadets and the USMA Bicentennial Commemorative flag. (Note: The USMA Bicentennial flag was included in the color guard only in 2002.) The design is the work of US Mint Sculptor-Engraver James Ferrell. 2002 West Point Bicentennial Silver Dollar I've posted about Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti's involvement with the coin's reverse design here: 2002 West Point Bicentennial Silver Dollar - Designs by John Mercanti.

Look at the centre of the lines that make up the crosses on the flag. https://wiki.australian-coins.net/w...lag-variety/
