Hi guys, received this in circulation about a week ago.

What you are seeing here is that the field on the reverse is frosted, apart from an irregular patch at the top. Larger parts of the devices can be seen not to be frosted, but not in a consistent way. Only the space inside the first O is smooth, but not the other three spaces inside letters, hence they are not lit up like the former, or parts of the lettering itself. The brighter areas of field around the centre are [correction] frosted but not as heavily as most of the rest of the field. The obverse is all smooth-finished like a regular pound coin (I couldn't so easily demo this). The edge looks pretty standard too; cross is below-average thickness.

So is this a regular proof, a reject proof, or just an oddity of the design, or what? I think this is the first Thistle and Bluebell I've had, but as I recall, all the other recent floral £1 I've had were smooth-finished both sides.

Poor quality from the mint I think - the unfrosted ones seem to be harder to find.

Gadzooks, have I let a cat out the bag?

Well, read it here today, Daily Mail next month!

andyg, are the frosted ones all the same, or is the bottom right one frosted right over? And are the O's and P and D all as mine in the frosted?

Hi,

I work for a large retail company in the midlands, so I deal with a lot of cash. Since June this year I have managed to get following olympic 50p's:

3 wrestling
1 football offside
5 sailing
5 gymnastics
2 tennis
2 goalball
2 shooting
4 handball
3 rowing
2 table tennis

I am hoping to get 3 full set of olympic 50p's for my kids. All of these coins were taken from general circulation, I will post pictures when I can get my camera to work. I am lucky that my job allows me access to these coins.

Bottom right coin I think circulated a bit more than the others :)

You're right about the middle of the letters - although it seems a bit random as they seem to vary. This frosted effect I've noticed on 50p 2014 too.

I've checked through my thistles.

9 are the standard finish.
4 are frosted like your example.
1 is an in between (Not frosted, not standard, just dull)
and 1 is a normal finish with very little thistle detail.

All my frosted ones show the same shiny O in One and lack of frosting above the Thistle.

One thing I noticed tho, two of my frosted ones have a very shiny obverse, more so than any of the other coins.

P.S I think I've got a couple of 13/14 50p examples where the obv looks frosty too... will dig through.

Not quite the same but close.

Also, asked a budding coin hoarder about his Thistles and out of 90 coins, 22 of his were frosty.
(He has a sealed bag of them and they're mixed in the bag too)

Got 2 Gibraltar pound coins - 2008 and 2010 in the past few days.

I now have 2015 Rank-Broadley 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and two pounds. Seen no 2015 pound coins yet. I've had the new portrait 1p, 2p and 5p.

Here is my two pennies worth...

I've just picked up my first 2015 10p so have the IRB 1p (bag of!), 2p, 5p, 10P (1 of), 20p (lots of), 50p (1 of) and £2 (1 of).
I also have the new portrait 1p only.

I was surprised to see the £2 coin out so early.

I thought we would have seen the Battle of Britain 50p by now given the recent celebrations. Has anyone seen any one or any commemorative 2015 coins out in the wild yet?

Regards
2p.
