I'm pretty excited to share this post with my fellow Ikesters. I was lucky enough to cherrypick an unattributed 1971-D Friendly Eagle variety Ike! This coin lists at $190 (PCGS PG), but it sells in the real world market for around $150. I nabbed this one for $25 plus shipping. The listing had just started too. I checked out the reverse, and the Earth just gave it away. Here is the link:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1971-D-PCG....m2749.l2649

Here's the reverse pic from the listing. I think at some point I may send this in for attribution and reholdering. For me, it's the right thing to do. This variety deserves the recognition.

Earlier in the week I stopped by one of our local antique malls, and I found this 1976-P mint set. It was in a cabinet with not much light to see, but I could tell the Ike looked dark. So I had them get this out for me for inspection. The Ike exhibited some nice, rustic toning on both sides. At $4.99, it was a no-brainer for me, especially since all the coins had some degree of toning. This one will end up in my next Dansco album set.

I scanned the mint set to show that this is basically how the set appeared to me from inside the cabinet. I couldn't tell how colorful the Ike was until I had it in hand. Whoa....

Post-An-Ike-Eisenhower-Dollar

The Ike really pops in direct light.

Excellent pair, Darth!

Jbuck went to the coin show today. What did he find?

And as I looked at all of the Ike's posted since page 1 back in 2010, it's no wonder why jbuck is so enthralled by them. There have been some absolutely stunning examples posted and Darth's are quite admirable!

I do have about a dozen more but they are ones pulled from circulation by my grandfather in the mid to late 70's before his passing in 1979. As they are priceless to me, I would be embarrassed to post them as they are not particularly attractive

Earle,
Great Job with the "acquisition" LOL of one of the extremely rare specimens from the horde of our hero JBuck.
And very glad to see you are still with us Buddy (JBuck) Beautiful 71 D and 77 Buddy

Darth,
Love the new acquisition (LOL) you have made as well.
You know I am very partial to those beauties.
I am no hurry for them to recognize them.... [Think 74D]
One so far.
Also HUGE congratulations on the FEV and the very nicely toned 76.

I bought this for under 4 bucks without good pictures, at first I thought it was sanded but it's just a very aggressive attempt at polishing out a strong clash. Very cool Ike dollar. The inside of the right wing is basically part of the field.

You mean there exists a 1974-D proof-like Ike? Do you have pictures of it?

I have looked through this thread a couple of times as well. It's nice to go back and revisit old posts, and locating your own first post is always instantly nostalgic.

The best part is that these were hidden from view. As I always do, I had to ask the dealer if they had any. I almost did not hear him say yes (so used to hearing no) and started to to thank him and walk off. He slid the top of the case over to reveal a lower level will all kinds of slabbed coins with a nice row of Ikes among them.

Too bad these were to only two that filled holes. However, if I had deeper pockets and wanted to do some upgrades...
