Thanks for the info justwalking. How about some pics of your setup with this lens? How does it do with coins relative to depth of field, working distance, etc? Thanks.

Here it is some shots. First one is comparision of the sizes with well known El-Nikkor Second is on the mount And last one is shot of the One cent resized to 1/4 of original. As Dof is function of magnification and magnification is function of size of the sensor with same FoV it is adequate for coins without shots stacking. So here 0.8X from 65 mm distance. (eq. for 5:1 on full frame)

The Cent shot is very side-lit. Is the working distance sufficient to bring lights in from a higher angle?

Ray, yes, exactly 65mm. There was just 1W led lighting from one lamp. Will do another shot later.

I actually find using sunlight very helpful when taking pictures of my error coins or my varieties. I find that taking pictures at night with my USB scope is more difficult than taking them in the day with sunlight. That's why I like taking pictures better in the day than night. Another trick you can do that will reduce a lot of glare from LED lights on your USB scope is putting white blank paper behind the background. It helps diffuses the light, so you can get better pictures with little to no glare at all. I did that two days ago, and my pictures improved drastically. Before putting white blank paper in the background. 1941 P LWC with Retained Cud. After putting white blank paper behind the background. 1958 D LWC with Peeled Lamination.
Errers and Varietys.

First I would reccomend the set up from Ray. Now have I thrown money away yes. I learned the hard way. Buy a little here and there to save money. I spent so many adapters from one size to the next. Best money yet was on Ray's system X set. Its so easy slight adjustment flip the lights on and press shoot from my teathered set up. I was able to buy some other lens and made them fit my System X. But in the end I just use what he built for me. I have a Cannon T6i nothing fancy mid level cost. It was a Christmas present to myself. The lens that came with it was Okay but the zoom they threw in was garbage and its a Cannon product. I found out not all zooms are the same. I got lots of zoom lens too. They come direct from Japan at reduce rates off of ebay. Do I really know how to use it heck no! But I did finally learn to set my white balance. Could I do it again yes but it would take a bit of time. I am very impatient but his set up is so easy its fun to shoot put the coins away and go do something else. But I did buy this little Koolertron 5 inch LCD 1080P Wireless Remote Control Digital Microscope with Adjustable Stand, HDMI/AV/USB Output Camera Video Recorder with 8 LED Adjustable Light Source from Amazon I think I got $50.00 off special for $150.00. But do I use it no it just sits there with the other 2 microscopes I bought. One was over $1000.00 and weights 100 pounds to lift! But hey if you want to spend money this seems to work even though I do not really use it. It has this neat 4 x Zoom I guess that was the reason I bought it. It just sits on my table top next to my lap top. I do not really go into looking at a coin that close. I can if I want to. I just usually just take about 5 to 7 shots per new coin and then I put them in some 2 x 2 snap and put them away in the safe. I guess work just keeps me to busy on other things but I do enjoy using Rays set up. Its the best actually so easy. I guess I got lazy thank to System X.

Justwalking I dont know if you know this. there is a sencor chip coming. but the only way to have a camera. you as the owner have to build it. have you ever tackled. putting one of these together. this will push your camera and lens setup out of the ball park. I want to try this but I would like to do this with another member. this camera is at 20MP. its about to go to 50MP. there is only certain pieces of glass. that can handle this camera. the way it will work is it will use. the best part of the lens glass only. so you know what this is going to be like. I am going to order the chip. hope you tackle this. have a great one

Justwalking this is as far as I can get with my canon camera. I like how it works. here is a image for you. this is a 2000 Lincoln Penny. this is as far as I could shrink this glass. if I lengthen this lens the mag starts the moment I start to lengthen the lens. what I have found you can only go so far with mag. after that you wont even know what you are looking at. you have a great one. here is the image thanks for the push. this date is shifted up and to the left.
