Mine are not going anywhere either and I am trying to complete my sets as quickly as possible before they start going up. Considering there are 24 coins with mintage's under 50,000 and most are under $100 that seems like a steal. There is a good article on Numismaster.com http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis...icleId=15553 on this.
Lol, you'd think I sold commemoratives the way I seem to be pushing them but I do not think they get the respect they deserve.

Way to go paleoguy! I'm a few years off from that milestone. Been working on my ASE set and my Modern Commemorative set, which ever comes along at my dealer as a good deal at the time. Lately it's been the ASE's but I did snag the Proof 2 coin Lief Erickson set a few weeks ago for $80.

Geepers ... first reported CCF of that significant accomplishment that I know of!

Sincere congratulations from me to you PG ... this accomplishment ... coupled with your significant classic commemorative set ... well ... it makes you the Commemorative King of the CCF!

Very well done indeed.

Nicklesearcher and paleoldguy45 are the two collectors who are the furthest advanced on commemoratives on this sight. PG you have a strong candle to NS, my flame is only a match!

I agree with Muddler. It is a major accomplishment! I have figured I still have years to go to complete both the modern and Classic sets as I average about one coin a month, however I think I have done some justice to getting these complete as I have only been seriously collecting for about 2 years now.

I like both reverses of these coins. If I had to make a choice I'd pick the Viking ship. Classic!

Great article and well worth reading, although there seems to be some differences between some of his numbers and those published elsewhere. He lists the mintage for the 1999 Dolly Madison in Unc as 22,948, while the Whitman Red Book and ModernCommemoratives.com both list the mintage as 89,104. The same with the 1999 Yellowstone, and others.

He seems like a very knowledgeable author and would be in the position to know the mintages. Anyone know if these are just errors in the article, or is there other information out there?

MIA, I would trust the mintage's listed in the Red Book, perhaps the author of the article did not include the mintage's of two coin sets that were available for both the Yellowstone and the Dolly Madison dollars.

I think (and hope) the lower figure is actual number of the coins sold, not number minted. I'm buying them as fast as I can find them if under $50. Here are three more references to the lower figure. If you Google the coin and 22948 lots of refs pop up..... PG

Thanks for the links paleoguy45. I too have been trying to get the lower mintages, as fast as my budget will allow, before the prices increase. With a lot of these coins having mintage numbers below 30k, you would think that they will see some decent increases in the future. (The grandchildren will thank me later)
