You definitely got a lucky pickup. As mentioned previously, those surfaces have definitely been altered and would it never get in a "good" slab.

Improperly cleaned; unnatural color.

the coin is too bright so the patina has been cleaned off. The coin was probably originally the color of the dark spots.

I think I will try to avoid coins that have been cleaned. I also looked at the results of various low value coins to see the effects of cleaning. But yeah, that is a nice Indian Head cent. I have one that is severely damaged, 1907.

That's a beaut! I think I'd finish the cleaning job with a little acetone or some of BadThad's magic juice and let it re-patina for a few dozen years. =)
