It may just be another bidding frenzy. I have watched many auctions form this seller and they all seem to end way over what I would be willing to pay.

 GSC is known for excellent internet photography and some ... ummmh ... modifications to raw coins to make them more appealing to the E-Pray masses. In this case ... no way they have 'enhanced' an NGC slabbed coin ... so all I can guess is that their loyal following is out of their collective minds on this one. It is hard to understand unless 2 bidders are mistaking it for a With Cents coin. It is fairly common to see MS65 No Cent coins (PCGS or NGC) go for less than $200.
This coin would have to regrade at MS67 for the $600 to be worth it and it looks accurately graded at MS65 to me.
I just hope those same bidders will bid on one of my auctions some day.

I saw "coin vault" last night lying on the TV --they were offering a roll of 40 V Nicks "these go for 7-8 dollars a piece in the catalog"  they looked pretty beat up (like the ones I buy for 50 cents a piece) Price  99 DOLLARS!  Retired USAF 1983-2003

I'm going to put my money on "shill bidding". That or someone can't read. I mean, this is just crazy money for an MS65 No Cents nickel. I purchased an NGC MS64 No Cents nickel 2 months ago for $70 (attached photo). I see NO reason why this one would go for $600!  |

Too bad that ebay is hiding the bidders identification, I would love to get ahold of the #2 person to offer my 1883 NC for the losing bid! BRG, that is pretty cool image, would you mind passing along the technique? I am not very good at the overlaying/photoshopping of images. Edited by oih82w8

I just looked at the bidding page, I see the bidder who won shows that 86% of his bids were with this seller. Plus he just kept bidding himself up.

Wow, I guess someone got carried away with the bidding. and your right most of the bids were his/hers. Yes I agree it would be nice if they stopped by my ebay page and bid on some of my stuff! |

OK, I'll take the unpopular position here as it seems to be about GSC. First, in my humble opinion the bidding went crazy in this particular auction and someone paid way too much but that's ebay... Regarding GSC they are masters at photography and juicing the photos of their coins. I've been beat up as some in this forum think I'm supporting them but it's really about supporting the buyers. In their defense - at least I can see the details of the coins compared to sellers who intentionally post blurred photos. I've probably looked at several hundred GSC auctions and bought five or six times. I'm a happy customer. I can see what I'm buying and I'm happy with my purchases. GSC always get's pretty high bids on their coins. But this is a little too much for that coin. lol.
