my oldest coin is 1798, but others own order coins. Take a look at this thread: how far back can we go?We are going backwards in sequence, so far we have gotten back to 1665

"Roman coins with Greek letters" are known as "Roman Provincials". A picture of the other side would help, but this coin appears to be a tetradrachm from Roman Egypt, emperor Tiberius, Year 14 (27/28 AD). Compare it with this coin on Wildwinds.

Nice coin. I know there are a lot of people out there who collect Egyptian Tets. I only have two, but I'm proud of them. Mine are Nero and Titus Tetradrachms from Egypt. I also have an Ionia Tetradrachm of Marcus Antonius. They are very interesting coins. Yours is very detailed and a nice addition to any collection.

to our forums! JW, that's a fascinating coin--a mixture of Roman and Greek elements.

Yeah, this Marcus Antonius coin is very close to my favorite coin. The image of Marcus is fantastic. It was one of my very first coins I ever purchased back in the 80's. You could not touch this coin today for what I paid back then. The Egyptian Tets are fascinating too. The one that Mohammad posted is gorgeous. Great detail. But again, you have a mixture of cultures in each coin with the images being more Roman than Egyptian; legends in Greek; and in many cases the deities of Eqypt (i.e., Sarapis, a Graeco-Egyptian god used on my Titus Tet). By the way, I neglected to welcome you Mohammad to this discussion board and look forward to hearing and seeing more from you.
