I found one and it had about a 1/4 inch torn off the left side.

Sure, why not? Unknowing people deposit all kinds of "odd" things into banking establishments.

The bank I go to doesn't want to take any requests for coins or bills anymore. If you ask for $2 bills, halves, Presidential dollars they give you a hard time. It's not like I'm asking for the moon. But no, I've never found red seals at a bank.

A friend of mine has a wife that works at a bank. He brings home all kinds of goodies that would make you drool

Due to my work I find occasional silver coins and such. In the past I have found red, blue, and brown seal notes.
Rest in Peace

I get $50 to $100 in twos from my bank every week to give out in change to customers (they love getting them and it sets my bussiness aside as special in their minds). Whenever the tellers see red seals they save them for me, but it's only been 4 in the last three years.

Not yet, but I'm always asking for $2 bills, so hopefully it's just a matter of time!

Yes several. Just look at the thread on circulation finds...great finds still abound if you are courtious with tellers and go back often.

Well guys, I ended up getting my first Red Seal $2 bill. It's from 1963, but unfortunately, it's not a silver certificate. It says on the top, "United States Note". Either way, I'm pleased.

^^ Nice!

Was this a circulation find? When it comes to $2's, Reds are all you'll find among the sea of Greens..

Yeah it was a circulation find. I got about $100 in face value of $2 bills at Capital One, and only one of them was a red seal.

I get all kinds of stuff from my bank. They give me a call. There is more things to find now as the economy is bad. People unloading all kinds of items. My daughter called me one day as a guy came in with 5 packs of one dollar bills, 25 in each pack. They were commercially put together (glued) and you pulled them out of the pack if you wanted to take one out. Also had a lady deposit all kinds of coins. Found several "red" cents in the 1950 year area. Got a good die clash out of that load also.

Congats on the red seal $2 DanMan! Old United States Notes are about all your going to find though. The last year for $2 silver certificates was 1899. Of course there are green seal Federal Reserve Notes starting in 1976.

About 12 years back when I wanted to sell off some of my currency collection, mostly Silver Certificates and the red seal Legal Tender notes, dealers would offer no more than 10% over face value ( Twenty Cents on each $2.00 Bill and a half dollar on the Five Dollar Notes... Instead I spent them all over town... On one transaction at the post office I could hear the person that was behind me asking the postmaster if he could purchase the notes with the red numbers on them as I was going out the door... I've also included Indian cents and "V" nickels (well circulated pieces) at the stores and in rolls...

Thats my problem, you have to find the right buyers for old currency. Coins seem to sell better in my experience. And there's always a market for silver.
