So you're right and almost 11K people are wrong because you don't like the look of his photos?

yeah totally scubu...you've got me figured out. I just don't like the look of his photos. These are reasonably accurate grades and photos that attempt to accurately represent the items being sold.

Yeah, right. Oh by the way, quit making snide posts, its annoying.

I realize that ebayers love shiny things, but I'm still surprised this guy doesn't have more negs given that almost every seller I've seen who sells coins like this has a lot more. There's a million comments about 'this is cleaned' or that they returned it etc but they're all positive. Many of us have had the situation where someone negs us before we can even do anything...and all of us (or at least the vast majority) don't try to rip people off like him...

I wouldn't have gone to the trouble to report him but yes Shadowcreator is right there is several buffed coins.I'm sure there over exposed to try to hide that fact.

The word cleaned appears once on the first page of 200 feedback, didn't check any further than that. I will say this, wrong lighting can make a dull coin look shiny. Disregarding feedback, his "Item as described" is 4.9 which is excellent for a coin seller. So maybe the answer to "How does this guy have so few negs" is deceiving images.

My guess would be most people don't feel like its worth the time to contact, mail back, leave negative feedback and probably decide to call it a learning experience.I'm speaking from experience ofcourse.

The 'dull reflectivity' indicates polished, it looks different when its just the photos (looks more 'dipped' then polished). I've seen this guy selling polished XF as gem BU. Strangely enough buyers always have the time to leave neg for smaller sellers. Maybe this guy throws in free coins with every sale where the buyer gets gipped.

Just so it's clear to everyone, why exactly are you reporting him?

I believe he is purposefully misdescribing listings...anyone with any coin experience knows these coins arent Gem unc. Also I believe that the quality of the photos shows that he is purposefully trying to deceive buyers. It's not like greatsoutherncoin where they juice their stuff; when sellers take photos with this quality and they're a big time seller there's only one reason for it. Maybe aboncom does the same thing, but this guy is actually selling more 'collectible coins' and he doesn't have a zillion feedback so hopefully if enough people report him he will be disciplined at least. I doubt it though.

Good news!

Dear Brian,

Thanks for reporting these listings to us.

I sent your report to our Coin Community Watch group and they agreed
with your assessment of the coins. As a result, I ended the listings.

Again, thank you for your report Brian. We appreciate your help in
keeping ebay a safe and reputable forum to conduct business.

Sincerely,

____

I have to be honest, as much as I have praised ebay's response to reports, CCW is getting a little out of control. They ended one of my listings just because somebody emailed and said I had the wrong Overton number on it. The reporter was dead wrong, but CCW just took their word for it and ended the listing without warning. Spent an hour on the phone getting it straightened out.

I'm curious, can you post here exactly what you said in your report? I mean I have 100% feedback, 4.9 item as described, and am a Top-Rated seller just like this guy and if someone reported me because they *think* my coins are polished based on images they *think* are overexposed.... I'd be furious.

It's not really that I just 'think' they are over-exposed, its extreme. Big difference between slightly off photos and something like that Half Cent that I put up. It's almost on par with sellers like numismaticbureau. Not to mention that I've seen him many times put a corroded piece of trash up and call it choice unc.

Come on seriously though, it was an XF polished and corroded coin and he was calling it GEM BU. Did you see it and the other two? Just because theoretically something can be subjective doesn't mean this guy isn't take it way way too far. I've seen stuff that is polished and over-exposed like that, and I've seen stuff that's normal and over-exposed. The normal stuff just looks cleaned or dipped, or mildly polished maybe if its a PL morgan or something but even then there's a difference. Turn up the exposure on a normal coin, it still doesn't look anything like those photos. I've never seen a coin like this guy's that didn't turn out polished, and I've bought many of them (at a discount of course). I would bet my arm that those coins that I linked are purposefully trying to hide polishing/harsh cleaning from newbie ebayers.

You have a point, though. I've gotten a few listings removed for seemingly inane reasons and I suppose it was because of the same thing. If they're not actually reviewing the listings and just trashing them because of a report, then that's wrong. I've seen the same thing done on big sites like yahoo answers, where if enough people report something it will just automatically ban the person.

Here was report:

"Message: These coins (particularly the first one) are blatantly not as
described; cleaned/polished up and over-graded. This should be obvious to anyone with coin experience. Photos are purposefully and deceitfully
over-exposed at an angle so the seller can claim its 'Unc' so amateur
bidders will bid it up. Only logical conclusion is that seller knows
what he is doing and is trying to rip people off. This seller has a
bunch of other polished junk hes trying to pass off as 'GEM BU' or
whatever and hes been doing this for awhile...he's an embarrassment to
ebay and its especially laughable that hes top-rated...he needs to be
banned or at least disciplined and told to stop putting false
descriptions.

Thanks."

Junk as in polished up stuff with horribly over-exposed photos

Ah - this time I pulled up a couple of closeups instead of just scanning the listings of thumbnails in the link you provided. I see what you mean now. Good call (At least I price MY junk appropriately!)

What happened to ShadowCreator?

Take a look at the rim on his AU++/Unc. bust half.

I agree with Brian. I suppose the most egregious examples have been pulled before I could see them, but there are several examples remaining that appear to be very questionable. I also believe the seller does have at least some intent to deceive.

I too am shocked that this guy doesn't have more negatives. There really are people giving him positives and writing that the coins appear whizzed or whatever. They are basically saying "yeah, you tricked me, I payed too much, but you're cool, you get a positive"

He gets good stars too. I've gotten "non-five" stars for shipping time on items I shipped first class same day as payment. I've gotten "non-five" stars on item not described or communication for a perfect description with completely accurate photos and total communication. Some people just don't give 5 stars just because, so I am simply shocked, more than anything else, that this guy does so well.

uhhh!

Ok, I see some grossly overpriced stuff, and several IHWC, but I also see some nice IHC and LWC. Then again, a bunch of polished xf, but even a polished xf is a nice looking coin.

I would guess those who buy don't know what an unc should look like, or they wouldn't buy in the first place. It's unlikely they get smart in a week or so.
