You are correct ozcoins. I am going to give it a go for a few weeks to try and get as many as possible, otherwise it would bebpretty dodgy stats. I think I can do about $800 a week of varied denominations and each little bit others add will help.

I love the idea. I base a lot of my theoretical notes stats on the 2011 Vort Report...good old Mick Vort-Ronald. The most recent report (2011) actually used 5,000 notes of each denomination. It's amazing what stats are coming back.

But with coins, that'll be even more interesting.

After I sent an email to Mick Vort-Ronald, he actually replied that it prompted him to go back through his surveys from 1993 to 2011 and compile a detailed article for CAB summarizing all of the percentages of signatures in all denominations, hopefully to be in the April issue.

Maybe we can speak to Fred Lever to see if he can get something in the CAB regarding your efforts. I could take some time in the next couple of weeks at work when I've got a moment.

I think many more coins need to be sorted before I can get an accurate picture of whats out there. I'm hoping for $1000-1500 of 5c and about $5000 of 20c. Those two are my favourite decimals so I'm concentrating on them first. Back at uni thiis week as well which will slow down noodling efforts so we'll see how it goes.

I'm pretty regular on the 20 and 50's, but have only started keeping results recently. I will also be doing some 5's for a change in the near future.

By the way, did you want varieties included in the tally count? If so, one of those 1980 50 cent pieces was a double bar.

I haven't bothered with varieties, just years. Cant be bothered checking for double bars anymore. Except for the 1996 which someone else found and I want!

I'll be jumping on this to help. I did $80 worth of $1 & $250 worth of $2 today, but I left the stats at the shop. I might even go through the 5c that I got the '72 & mis-strike in the other day.
The surprising thing in one of the $1 bags was a 1995 Waltzing Matilda centenary $1. The joys of people & money.

I am halfway to filling a 2 litre jar with commemorative coins only, should be way too late for the completion and results of this survey.

Will analyse when the jar is full; it may yield some interesting results! With a bit of luck, I may find some that were not officially released for circulation.

I guess that results will be available in about a year or so.
