I wonder if they would be willing to trade for an entire roll of 1943 copper cents?

well the thing about that is, this is actually an error and a roll of 1943 coppers would be counterfeit so they don't really belong in the same catagory. Its the price this guy thinks this error is worth that is just crazy and his story he has to go along with it just sounds crazy right along with his price

I guess they should have opted for the briefcase full of money Of-course, they don't say what was in the briefcase... it could have rolls of pennies or stacks of dollar bills?

Just to be clear, I DO NOT have a roll of 1943 copper pennies!

He lists it regularly and the price keeps going up. Over on the CoinTalk forum he's constantly worming it into the discussion telling it's story and a half a dozen pictures of it. If you mention him, 1995, cent on dime errors, dual denominations, errors, Accugrade, or Alan Hagar he is liable to show up with his pride and joy. We probably see and hear about it two or three times a week.

Sorry, I was not aware this person has been trolling the forums with their 'coin' in tow. Had I known, I would not have posted the thread. The last thing this person needs is more publicity. Though I must say I would be curious to see how the 'story' has evolved up to this point in time.

How much would the ebay fees be on that coin for him? Aren't the ebay fees determined by starting price or is there an upper limit on the fees?

Agree with Bobby he's just fishing for offers and priced to put his coin at the top of ebay listings when priced highest to lowest.

Seriously, $900 is about tops for it. I definitely wouldn't trade him my UNIQUE coin for his.

He'd have to kick in a lot of extra cash or trade!

Yes it's a PR64 Double Struck on BOTH Sides 1865 3 Cent Silver for those of you that haven't seen it before.

Very nice coin Ken. I'm glad I read the thread. I would have missed that double struck. Sweet.

Ken, there seems to be an error with your 3 cent piece! Send it to me and I will dispose of it properly.

Holy crap, dude, that coin is awesome.

...ummmm, wasn't there a memo about these being recalled due to quality control issues? Will you at least tell us how you became the guardian of such an exquisite piece of numismatic history,

As you said QC was supposed to be super high on all Proofs issues due to proofs weren't just bought at the Mint and were given out to dignitaries, political figures, and the like.

It's amazing to me that this "boo boo" survived. I can just picture the person putting the blanks on the press and starting to strike it and going "OH NO Stop the Press!" and realigning it and striking it again thinking no one would notice or maybe it got tossed to the side and picked up or pocketed by the worker due to it being "messed up".

I wish I knew the history, but since I don't I like to make up my own theory. I am truly lucky to have found this coin it was definitely a right time right place scenario.

Below is my original post I made about how I came across awesome, as you said, piece of numismatic history. FYI, I think ANACS missed the Cameo designation.

LOL, you made the right choice when you picked up that baby. I don't care if the gun was owned by Aaron Burr by way of Sam Colt, I'd pick the trime any day!

Thanks for the link to the original post. It was a great thread, I read every single post! Did you ever get an accurate 'insurance' value for the piece?

I will now be attending ALL of the local gun shows. Besides, we don't really have many coin shows in our area... as a matter of fact, I can't think of a single show. I think the closest may be in Chattanooga, TN?
