I have heaps of round 50 centers
if I can't get/afford proofs for the early years I'll get mint wallets instead

good luck Trout! I did the same thing a few years back...

I now have a complete set of proof sets with the exception of '66... have had plenty of opportunities to buy but I am happy to wait for a set in perfect condition which don't come around that often...

From memory there were a few '90s era sets which are a little harder to get / more expensive, and there is a premium on '71 '72 '73 (the other '70s sets are reasonably priced and you should have no pros finding them a good prices), and of course the Millennium and Federation sets command a premium as well.

Nicly done Steve
you don't see the early proof sets too often.
There are heaps of the BP wallet types around but the coins are pretty ordinary.
Most of the sets so far have cost me $30-40 the rest I may not be as lucky.
It will be a drain on my coin budget but at the end of the day I will have a perfect set and will just top them up each year with the new sets when they come out

Is there anyway of doing it without totally destroying the case?
They would make great drink coasters filled with circulated coins.
I was thinking sawing off one end and pulling the card and coins out that way.
The most important issue is doing it without damaging the proofs.

I have just used pliers. I think it is near impossible to preserve the plastic casing.

I think the pliers will be the way to go.
The chisel and hammer could get the nice coins covered in blood
The mint sets are so much easier all I needed was a box cutter

like I said, a LOT of care ;-)
and in doing so, I get about 1 in 4 that I can put back together to be hardly noticeable.
