Yeah, I am not too happy about the idea of gold-plating ancients. Leave that for the State Quarters; don't do it on valuable and interesting pieces of history.

-Kurt

Kurt, thanks--that explains why I could not match the mint mark--is that PTR dot in crescent?
I'll look into Constantius II

Your welcome DV,

Looks like this is RIC VII 480.

Ironic, I have 6 or 7 Constantius II campgates in my collection but none from Trier

Cheers,

-Kurt

Thanks...I wondered that too, but 480 is STR dot in crescent, but doesn't mine look like PTR dot in crescent?

VK, I checked out 464 too--but that one doesn't have a dot in the crescent either.

The only one that comes up in Helveticas is RIC 480 when I put in Constantius II, laureate draped curaised left, and PTR dot in crescent.

I need to get me some nice campgates, I'm slacking. I always liked the reverses. Here is my best one. I cant help you with the attributin part for your coin, looks like you already have some of the best on it.

Thanks for looking--I should go to Helvetica, because Wildwinds says 480 is STR dot in crescent.

No problem

The thing with Wildwinds is that when there are variations of a mintmark, like STR, PTR, sometimes just one is chosen to represent the attribution, in this case STR dot in crescent was picked, when there was also PTR dot in crescent. That has led me astray a few times in the past.

I have no nice campgates unfortunately, or even any decent ones. Just a very crappy one that I think may be Theodosius I.
