Oh and my book is filling in quite nicely, the local coin shop buys my duplicate wheats for a decent price. (condition does not matter)
Both are good to hear.

Buzzsawddog, I have to ask, how much is the 'decent price' your local coin dealer is paying for wheat cents? Also, are you selling your copper to the dealer, somewhere else, or keeping it?

Congrats by the way...looks like you're off to a good start

Well I am just holding the copper for now. I will see if I can find someone after I get to $25 in face copper.

Well they were all common dates and I got .03 for them. Plus I was buying silver coins that day and he threw in two extra silver dimes.

Well I tried my first box of dimes today and what a bust :-(

The teller (sweet girl) told me they had a box of dimes but guess someone else grabbed it while she was not looking so she scrambled around and found $250 worth of dimes and got them for me. All but 3 were customer rolls and they had a nice black strip on them. (my guess a drop for another coin roll hunter). Nothing in the box :-( I guess I will just order next time and pick up a fresh box.

Ouch, yes, it appears you got someone's dump. No problem. Dust off and try again.

Well try number 2 on the dimes and this time it was a nice sealed box. Nothing along the lines of silver...

But?

Usually a "but" follows a sentence like that.

As in, "Nothing along the lines of silver... but I found several proofs!"

You know something funny happened to me today. I went and picked up a boz of dimes and in the box were CW dimes and when I got home...half the box were coins that I had searched and marked! Yikes! I think 22 out of 50 were ones I had searched. The good news was out of the remaining, I got 1 silver out of. Thought this was weird because I have 3 pick up banks near my home and 3 dump banks across town! Haha...at least they werent all mine! CHEERS!

No but's sorry...
I dumped all he dimes on this side of town and picked up on the other side. But what I have mostly been doing is dumping in the coinstar for gift certificates where I shop at. Or... I will take a few rolls every other day into the bank inside the store. Just wish they would give out gift certificates to my grocery store! Then I would be set :-)

Good call. The grocery store I use has a Coinstar that gives a no-fee gift card for that store. Sort of a no-brainer since I am already there to buy stuff anyway.

A friend special orders books for customers who don't want/can't use the Interwebs. She gets full-value cards for Amazon.

I'm working on my 72 box of pennies. So far I'm averaging 24% copper and have found over 950 Wheat back coins. When I finish my next box I'll have to go out and get a few boxes to look at. I've also found quite a few "S" mintmarks after getting off to a truly dismal start.

I know what it is to be broke, so that is why I buy the pennies, but really, they are a lot of fun to search. Every now and then when I can, I buy as many half dollars as I can. I will drain my bank account to buy a box if my husband has just gotten paid. I figure out of $500, at least $480 or more will go back, and if I got more than $20 in clads, I will put them aside so we can go turn them in. Sometimes it comes in handy. A year or so ago, I was able to turn in my silver and make my van payment! That was extremely lucky, and I have not been that lucky since, but I have been saving my clads since that time, and before the end of the summer, if need be (which is almost a certainty) I will turn them in again.

So, AWESOME first score! I have been doing this for a while, it is addicting, fun, educational, and I just like it.
