TPG's, most specifically PCGS, definitely grade with more leniency when it comes to the keys, mainly the super rare stuff that's seldom seen (extremely high grade or low surviving numbers)

I mean, I really like my 1917 Type I, but I will 'kick it to the curb like a red-headed step-child' for a decent 1916.

ArrowsAndRays: Is it me, or do TPGs seem to over grade key date coins like this 1917 T1?
Yes, I seem to get that impression as well concerning the 'key dates.' However, PCGS in particular seems to be the most difficult TPG from which to get a designation (ie. FB, FH, etc.)

Since the subject was brought-up, I guess is wouldn't hurt to ask if there are any 1916 SLQ's floating around out there in cyberland? Has anyone seen any nice ones lately?

Here come the "no date" 1916's...there were quite a few cherry-picked as dateless Type I's on the forum.

My definition of a 'decent 1916' includes the date. For the right coin, not only would I gladly part with my 1917 Type I, I would even consider throwing in my left reproductive organ as well...

Yeah, not exactly a cheap coin in any grade.
Full date your probably looking at a VG coin minimum.

Well, if I could unload a couple of those 'high dollar' Roosevelt's (or a few other coins) in my store, money wouldn't really be a problem

This 1917 is currently up for auction at around $200; not mine; I don't collect them. Just tossing it out there.

A fake one, really? Where did you come across a counterfeit 1916 S.L.Q.?

I'll have to take some images of it when I get to the house.
