Sounds like you are having a great time searching the roll so it was not a mistake buying it but $8 is a little high priced.

most likely it will be a strings and sons wrapper and you can buy the rolls and crimpers to make them look "unsearched" whatever you buy on ebay 99.9% of the time has been searched and they place the two best coins on the ends of the penny roll to make you bid high. They occasionally show a couple other silver dimes or so on through the roll, but usually sell at a premium do to the two outside coins.

I mean really how likely is it for a Mercury dime to be on the end of a Wheat penny roll?

Hey Daniels, I'll take you up on that beer... but I live in MA so I'm not sure when we'll get around to it. The teens and 20's are rare to find, even in a roll of wheats, and the steelies are very rare to find in the wild. Often times people will put them in the roll as an added "bonus." Most likely, they are all common dates, but keep an eye out for a 22 with no D, or anything still shiny :) Eight dollars sounds like it was high, I can get similar rolls for $2 near me. I found a 1910 in one of those. Still, it's worth it for the excitement. Have fun, and try to post a list of the dates so others can help you out.

I should add you can buy a box of pennies from the bank for free and then return the box after you've searched it (probably to a different branch). Obviously you won't find whole rolls of wheats, but you'll find some, and they actually are unsearched. Usually. Plus, you get most of your money back in the end. I usually grab about $10 in nickels and $5 in pennies every few days because I'm 22 and have no money.
