Excuse my manners.......prek666

Not sure I can help you with that, maybe someone else can chime in to give you more information.

Could be as simple as someone stamping their name with metal stamps...Or could be a kid way back then....

As you can see when I analyse the coin for depth, not all the letters are the same depth...Probably, like I said, not done by any mint.

Thank you again Wert,

you're probably right about the fact that someone stamped his name or his company name on it...does that decrease the value of the piece?

I am no expert prek666....Unless I saw " John Lennon" or something stamped on it, I would say NO (In my opinion).

Let me check my resources tonight to see if there's anything on Rouleau. I received a catalog of counterstamps from a collector just last week.

prek666,
I was told me that counterstruck tokens could only be redeemed at the business that issued them (sorta like early Cdn Tire money).

Here's what I found:

"JOSH R. ROULEAU

-There are three types of Rouleau countermarks, which are made from the separate punches "JOSH" "R" "ROULEAU". They date from the mid-19th century since two 1857 Prince Edward Island half pennies(BR-919) are countermarked. And since many of the tokens are from the Maritimes, the issuer was probably from one of those provinces."

This info came from a Catalog by Gregory Brunk on Counterstamps.

Thanks!
Is there any value indicated in that catalog?

No values given. It's strictly details about the counterstamps. But I found a "Ships/colonies" token that sold on icollector for $150.00. Not bad for a token!

nickle nubber (that should be nickel, but I digress), back in the old days, the clothing of most people didn't have pockets and tokens were drilled, and threaded onto a piece of rawhide and tied around the body; early money belt. This kept the coins quiet while hunting, and safe while drinking and carousing.
