Gee, he's right! I better act now. This could only keep rising in value, especially once it's in a PCGS holder

"Grades about altered surfaces" and "rarely found with surfaces this altered". Surely it's some kind of joke...

A 14 day return policy?
Let's give the seller some slack.
After all, the seller just may be playing a joke.
Or...
he/she may truly believe that this dime is special.

The are a few coins, very few and at the lower end of the spectrum, which may be worth a closer look.

Seriously, why even bother posting this?
To share the laugh?

I believe this to be true unfortunately. With this seller having 169 coins and 9 pieces of exonumia on ebay you can decide for yourself.

Absolutely! Seriously though, ebay listings like this are posted on this forum to show the newer / inexperienced members what types of things some sellers are doing on ebay and to help prevent them from being suckered by those persons who would take advantage of their lack of knowledge.

I have not had a response from this seller in regards to my $2.00 offer and don't expect to get one.

My first reaction was to chuckle and think "so at what price do YOU think he should list HIS coin?" but upon further review it appears to be a joke, most likely on us. Between knowing about things like the existence of a 1955 Poor Man's Doubled Die (not Double Die) and selling a 1916 Barber dime Gem DMPL BU or Proof for $700 a few weeks ago, I suspect he's already gotten the laugh he wanted from the $2 offer and others and probably is well on his way to accomplishing the true goal of increased traffic and exposure.

I can understand this. But what I would like to see is some kind of "warning" such as:

"This is an example of what NOT to buy!"

That way, the educational value of such an absurd offer to sell is better understood.

Why do people do this? Do they think someone will fall for the "altered surfaces", "very rarely" comments and it's high buy it now price and think they are getting a bargain when they offer $100 for it and get a dipped /cleaned coin for $100?

Seller has 100% positive feedback with over 3500 ratings. Hard to believe when he posts stuff like that.

hmm I wanted to choose my own color for the dip - if it was gold plated then I would have bid one dollar more than you gyrene

seriously though definately has to be some sort of joke

It could all be a joke, and if so, a good one. Look at all the free advertisement he is getting. I'm sure in the world of coins, this isn't the only place that link was posted. I would assume, some people who stumble across this coin also check what else he has for sale, which might lead to an actual sale.

Funny:
"The coin in the photos is the coin you will receive. This coin grades about Altered Surfaces. Very rarely found with surfaces this altered."

Wow, a true rarity!

Rarely found this ugly.
