If I Ever Find Who Marks These Coins...

I've never marked a coin, nor would I ever. I don't think it's a complete sin because acetone could take it off... but how annoying and ugly is it to open a box and see a ton of marked coins. It just doesn't make you feel good. And I'm with chuckster on this one. Marking coins in my opinion gets you nowhere. Except maybe it might be cool to see if you get the same coins back again.

totally agree with you chuck, youre getting mostly clad in a box anyway whats the difference if you get your coin back or not!! we are looking for silver and proofs so what if we get our coins back long as theres some nice silver rims included! jbuck has the right idea hangem high!!

All the "Dump Plans" in the world isn't going to change anything by marking coins to see if they are wasting time by re-checking the same coins.

I don't care how they change their dumps, they can not control what coins they're going to get back when they buy these boxes by changing dumps based on them getting their "marked coins" back.


ANY silver finds in these boxes,small or large,is the product of sheer luck!

I have seen very few marked coins. I have seen a few red older quarters. Seems I see most of those at laundry mats. No idea why. Laundry mats sometimes have interesting finds in their coin changer...just don't get caught putting a 20 in and not use their machines. They take it a bit personally. So, car washes work, too, but most only take $1 & $5 bills. Not as reliable as a bank, but I like to do things off the beaten path from time to time.

I do not mark coins, but I do mark the wrappers. I won't say how, but it is a distinctive mark, so if I ask my bank if they have something I am looking for, I am not getting back what I already searched. When I get wrappers from my bank, I mark them soon as I can, so I don't have to worry about it later.

Ok, I guess I give up on this. It's pointless to mark coins. You can't control what you get back in boxes even if you send your marked dumps completely out of your service district, and don't see those marked coins again, pretty much guaranteeing that you are receiving fresh unsearced coins in your boxes...ok. I'm done beating a dead horse.

You accomplish nothing marking coins- the ONLY way you will find more silver/varieties/errors than your competion is by doing more boxes than the other guy/gal!

Laundromats and amusement machines sometimes eat a quarter. Since they split the profits with the location, they leave a bunch of painted quarters for mishaps.

No bookkeeping needed, just dump the money out, remove the reds, and split the rest.

I believe this is the first time I have read a well written justification for marking coins. No hate from me, unless you are engraving your initials.
