I can not see the doubling in Liberty, I guess I should upload a pic of that part to but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

I see the thickening of the date, the wear makes it less obvious I think. It's possible it's a different doubled die though, there are several for that date.

I do not believe that it is the 002 because of the you inside you is a bit different. Because of the wear to this coin, I can not see those die markers, they are fine scratches. I thought that since it was minted in Denver that would narrow it down for us but I can't figure it out.

It doesn't look like any on copper coins. Maybe it is a new one?

I am trying my best not to be upset about the condition, it is the first true doubled die that I have ever found and it sure beats Machine Doubling.

The mint mark location is dead on for 1972D-1DO-002. An overlay confirms it.

Well at least its worth more than a penny, thanks for all of the help identifying this piece guys. Since the value is not all that much I am going to use some acetone on it this weekend and put it in a 2x2.

Thats definitely an 002. The wear on coins can throw people off sometimes.

Its all good, I did not want to sell my first DD anyway, ironic that the first DD I ever bought was a 1972 when I was a kid, maybe I should get that out of the safe and see if I got taken. You guys want to see it? I have not taken it out of that safe in years and I never took a loop to it.
