i should add that these, in my humble opinion, are novelties, and as such are not part of my 'collection'. I don't go out of my way to find them, don't always buy them when I do see them (hard to imagine, but yes, even if they are 50c) and certainly don't pay much for them... fun trinkets only deserve a trinket price tag...

Quote: fun trinkets only deserve a trinket price tag... In the case of silver or gold melt value. I saw mine on the bay and wanted it because it is made from my favorite design pre decimal coin. The main problem I have with it is that it was made from a very high grade coin, the obverse portrait would still grade EF

The sovereign looks like 1938 but has lizzy on the obverse Is the 3 actually a 5 and my eyes are deceiving me?

I like the 1982, the 2002 doesn't do it for me though.

Yeah, the 2002 coin is just the wrong colour, maybe in a different colour it would look OK the windmill reminds me of a dart board LOL,the red one looks OK & different colours on the commonwealth games coin would look better to.
BTW the gold souvereign & chain is just a solid gold piece of jewelery to me,just bullion to me & has absolutely nothing to do with my coin collection.

Not to be a party pooper but the law says that no one is allowed to deface currency and make a living. So can cops pick you up for this?

If they were to enforce the Crimes (Currency) Act 1981 we would need a ten fold increase in the amount of coppas in Australia. Why bother investigating someone for cutting a coin for a bit of art when there are so many serious crimes that occur.
