Hey,
This might sound like a stupid idea, but I am going to make a guide book of notable and interesting Md's (actually, it is under way). Yours is a n ice ones, with nice doubling on the bust, and with your permission, I would like to list it along with the photos, and you will be listed as the discoverer (if you want to be, if so please give me your last name)
Thanks,

Alex

Thanks so much Monika! Your coin will be listed as 1968D-MDO-5-001. Are there any markers (scratches, gouges, ect.) on this coin?

Iam at work right now...lol...(nurse is on lunch),but when I get home in the morning ,I will try to find the quarter that has a nice Machine Doubling.I will put it on this poll.....
And thank you for using my coins for your project.

OK Alex, you do know markers are not necessary, right ? MD is not caused by a particular die and none are exactly the same. Your numbering system will be unique to each coin.

I have probably hundreds of cents with Machine Doubling. I'm sorry but I think the idea of cataloging them is a fruitless endeavor. The same could be said for struck throughs'. Some are interesting but they are just a result of the coin making process.

Monika, nice finds.

I've never found an example of machine doubled quarters.

Although machine doubled pennies aren't rare, I wouldn't say good examples are common.

If only MD = DDO right? I look forward to seeing more of your finds.

My first and only Machine Doubled penny to date:

After a few years of collecting, you'll wish you'd never see another Machine Doubling or Die Deterioration on a coin. They won't be collectible for other than educational purposes.

Im finding MD's on pennies nickels and quarters, but so far never on a dime.I like to keep the once with extreme MD.I know they are only worth the face value ,but so are toned coins and lots of poeple do collect those as well.

monika..collect what you like and enjoy...that's the name of the game.
But as for toned coins....sometimes they bring a huge premium.

Maineman750....I diden't know there are valuable toned coins.Like I said before I'm still new at all this.I better go through my "get rid off pile" and dig them out.I have found several with nice toning. Is there something special to look for on those coins?Like type of coin, certain colors, pattern of coloring.
Thank you very much :)

Monika...take a look on ebay at completed listings...search for "toned cent" or "toned silver dollar",etc. It is part of the hobby I'm not especially interested in, but there are definitely people interested in natural toners and will pay good for the right ones.
