That is way cool. I didn't get the key to change the combo but my friend has one I could use though I don't feel as if I need to change it. Also, mine tipped the scale at right around 1,900 lbs according to the post master, he said he used some kind of truck scale to weigh it.

I do like you're shelving system better then mine though I may go the route you suggested and have a metal fabricator come out and work up some plans for shelving.

If you don't mind me asking you where did you get yours at?

Looks so similar you can tell they didn't vary the design much, excellent find.

The shelves are all adjustable. Saw it on craigslist. I picked it up in Springfield Mass. This is also a 277 same as yours. so, I can say w/ confidence that it is also 1900lb.

Way cool Chris, love the red Olds in the background.

Do you mind PMing me what you paid or posting it if you don't mind. I think it is fair to say spec wise we have the same vault.

Take care

If you know the contents of your fathers safe then maybe it should stay closed. in 20 or so years you'll opne it having forgotten whats in it. Or maybe your children will open it in 50 years and find stuff in it.

That would be a lovely surprise for them.

I say this because my family found a huge fireproof chest in one of my deceased relatives house, inscribed with the family name. Its victorian, and when we opened it we found family siver, relics, full dining sets and the cherry on top - 75 sovereigns.

NinaMason, post offices dont hold just stamps - you can buy sovereigns and stuff at the ones in England.

Post offices use safes to hold cash from their daily transactions, to store postal money orders and other things.
