PCGS probably called it cleaned - but I think it's a great coin! Nice addition, have fun cracking it out of it's TPG prison!

I don't even know why I bother to play the "guess the grade" game with you guys...yes I do, because it's fun!

...and you guys are usually right!

Perhaps I should have asked for attribution for a more challenging post.

I was trying to do some research on my new half and found it on the PCGS Coinfacts website. I guess you could say that it's famous! Mine is the one on the right.

No, Al C. Overton is the Subject Matter Expert who identified the varieties of early Half Dollars.

"...the standard reference book for varieties of half dollars minted from 1794 through 1836 is Early Half Dollar Die Varieties by Al C. Overton. It shows a whopping 450 plus varieties for the capped bust half series alone, which runs from 1807 through 1836."

Man, I love this coin! I'm testing myself to see if I'm correct on this since I'm fairly new to the hobby. On ebay there is an 1834 Capped Bust half dollar (Item # 251107236149) that I think has been cleaned at some point. There is no mention of this in the description. Can you guys tell me if I'm right? Thanks!

Nice coin, has all the right diagnostics for the 107. Star 1 points right to the middle of a dentil, liberty's upper lip is full and bigger. And on the reverse, the "5" in 50 C. is tilted slight left and higher than the zero. Nice example for the old 7070!

oih82w8, are you assembling a set for your album or collecting a encapsulated set? Regardless you have many of the same dates I have for mine such as the 1834 and 1837 halves.

muddler, I am working on an encapsulated 7070 set, the 1834 and 1837 take care of the Capped Bust half dollars.
