The tissue test saved my sanity. When I first started collecting all I collected was Morgans. Then I read about all the counterfits made in China and I freaked. I did a weight tests, caliper tests, looked at the coins with a loop, still I was not satisfied until I did a tissue test. It seems like something made up, but it really works!!

I have been working on mine for over a year now. This is one heavy and expensive album to complete. I would highly recommend Modern Coin Mart and John Scanlon Coins. Those are my two main sources on ebay. Scanlon single handedly finished off both of my Ike albums.

Never heard of the tissue test. Learn something everyday here.

Quote: Learn something everyday here. That's the truth, plain and simple. I have been a member of this family for a little over a year now (I think) and I do learn something nearly every day that I read and post. It's such a wonderful way to learn about coins. See? The Internet is good for something besides porn.

Wow, can't think of how many hours I've spent trying to figure out whether certain foreign coins were silver and the whole time the answer was in my bathroom!

er... what are you weighing in your bathroom?
I don't want to really know what my beer gut weighs to the pound, let alone down to the gram...

Quote: I was even thinking about buying the complete mints sets and just taking out the Kennedy's, but that would be pricey Proof Sets, NOT Mint Sets. The Proof Sets tend to be less costly then the mint sets unless they are silver.

I think you should be with reputable sellers on ebay to get silver proofs that actually ARE silver. The tissue test is a neat trick; can't wait to try it out.... Also, once you've handled silver and clad proofs, besides the obvious way of seeing the solid silver-color on the reeding, after a while you do notice the difference in color between silver and clad kennedy's. It comes to you.

As Billy said, eventually you get to a point where you can pick them out fairly easily. Here is a page out of my album.... Aside from the regular proofs being toned, the silvers look frostier, more silvery looking. I know thats a bit simplistic, but its pretty much the case. Or you can buy some from me. *wink wink* LOL

Gorgeous! Thanks for the scan. I've got one half left for my circulated Franklin halves collection, and am about to start on this one. Thanks for the inspiration! Mayhaps I will post my wish list... :)

Very nice smoker. Im also working on this album. For the clad I need one of the 79 proofs, 97,99,2010 proof. For the silver proofs, Iv only got 98 and 92, I bought the whole silver proof sets. The problem with buying the silver sets really starts in 99, when the extra quarters are thrown in, they go up in $$ then. I was going to grab a few more this weekend, but I ran across a killer deal this week, 25$ in silver gearge Washington quarters, and 20$ in mercs, and silver rosies, for 480$, obviously I couldnt pass that up. Good luck working on your set.

For anyone thinking about starting this album, I reccomend just going for the Proof only issue album. I made the mistake of buying the regular album, then I realized it's not really a complete set unless it has all the different mints. So I basically spent 20 something dollars on an album I now have no use for.

I wound up buying the album that includes the silver proofs by accident. Costly accident! ;-)
I'm halfway through filling in the silver proofs and I'll be up-to-date with it. I'm hoping to get a run of silver proofs 1992-1999, which would pretty much take care of it.
It's a fine looking album, but as mentioned earlier, heavy as can be.
