...the 1917 does have a "point" (in more than one instance) over the 1929.

The 17 looks like a better strike than the 29 to me. I vote for the 17.

Both are gorgeous. The 1917 has a bit more detail and stronger luster so I would go with it. Both appear to be MS-64

The 1917 T2 would be my choice.

17 + 29 = 46...there's 46 doritos in a bag and if I eat 17 that leaves 29 but if I eat 29 that leaves 17 and if I eat none there's 46...46 doritos in a bag...yea...I'm an excellent driver...

Ok, from a numbers point of view: The 1917 Type II has a mintage of 13.8 million and the 1929 a mintage of 11.1 million. According to your percentages that would give approximate FH strikings of 13,800 for the 1917 Type II and 5.5 million for the 1929. Yet, more 1917 Type II coins have been certified FH than the 1929, according to PCGS.
Does that mean the survivability rate for FH struck coins is higher for the 1917 Type II than the 1929-P? Or, have I just confused myself silly...

The numbers listed are for that particular year at the specific grade per PCGS, not all FH. I am not sure if the numbers are available through the TPGers without some sort of paid subscription.

It's sad that I am still comparing these two while I am waiting to go to the post. The shield is stronger on the 1917 than the (what was that other one?) other one. I can't believe that I am considering taking a long "break" to go across town to pick this one up. My supervisor stopped by my work station thinking that she a "naked lady" on my monitor. I let her read the thread and she that was a "lovely lady" and she would like to see it when I get it in hand. As she walked away she told me to get back to work. BUSTED!
