VF/XF details. Rim damage, gashed....and the surfaces don't look original. On the plus side, I dont see anything that makes me question authenticity. Most raw $3 gold coins are fake, so that is always a concern when purchasing one of these. ANACS would be fine I think, verifying authenticity is all that matters.

taking a quick look at a couple up of these up on HA, the 78 is bolder on both coins there too. and the shadow or doubling around the three is the same as on this. (but just a rookie, trying to pay a little back.)

The 3 on the reverse is doubled, which I forgot to mention. Does this increase the value of this coin or is the doubling normal.

Many of the coins I looked at while researching my answer had that doubling.

stick to slabbed as what if it was a fake? Then you would be out of money!

VF Details, the rim ding is unfortunate and drops it down quite a bit.

Agree with others - the rim dent is going to restrict this one, and the surfaces din't look original unless it's just funny lighting...

I like the way the coin looks. It's unfortunate that It is damaged but on the other hand by getting a damaged and possibly cleaned coin you saved few hundred dollars. Or almost 50%.

the only reason I would get this coin graded for resale is to guarantee authenticity because these things are copied rather frequently. With that being said I think ANACS should be sufficient for the authentication purposes that you would need to have to make the buyer confident that the coin is what its supposed to be even though it is damaged
