Picked up this 2007 P Adams in change from the Metro in DC April of 08. Was shiny, looked fresh from the mint when it plunked in my hand, figured it'd be a neat memento from the trip. Been living in a pocket with a baby Swiss Army knife, chap-stick and random change ever since. It's worn in nicely. Got a 71 & 74 Ike just laying here...

That is SOOOOOOOOO cool One question though, what does the edge lettering look like? Is it still discernible? Oh and stud722, your not off the hook, we still want pics of simon

Quote: One question though, what does the edge lettering look like? Is it still discernible? Thanks! The edge lettering is still pretty easy to read, for edge lettering. What I think is a horrible idea has actually stood up pretty well in this case. I'll see if I can get some pics today.

Sorry for the double post! Had some luck getting the edge lettering through the lens today.

Been carrying an 1877 Seated Half for a couple of years. Bought it with full LIBERTY for only $30. The last few weeks, I've also been carrying a 1909-S VDB counterfeit and 1869/69 Indian Head cent.

From this thread it seems people use coins that they don't really mind getting damaged as pocket pieces. However, a while back on this forum some guy posted some coin (can't remember which, sorry ) that he improved the look (making stuff on it more visible), by keeping it as a pocket piece for a few weeks. How does that work?

Babar, I remember reading it too. A coin which has been cleaned in the past or has some dirt or other foreign substance can possibly be improved by using it as a pocket piece. The gentle rubbing over a period of time duplicates the action of how coins were carried in years past. Certainly this experiment is to be preferred over any chemical process.

thanks devilsbite, It's surprising that the edge lettering has held up so well. Bryan1315 that worn morgan is stunning was most of the wear caused by the coin being a pocket piece or was it worn before you aquired it?

Improving a cleaned coin by carrying it does not work on coins that have been very heavily polished. The polishing rounds out the devices and makes everything kind of mushy. The coin would have to drop several grades before it looked originally worn again.
Seems to work with coins that have been dipped or lightly cleaned, without harsh rubbing.

It was pretty worn when I got it. It actually was sent in to PCGS for a lowball set by the previous owner (so it was pretty worn) and they put it in a genuine slab instead of grading it. I am guessing it came back genuine because it does have a couple of rim bumps. When I saw it I noticed it was a very worn VAM-83 (one coin that is usually found in pretty high grades) so I purchased it and cracked it out of the slab and started carrying it around
